About Me

Hello, my name is Melissa DeVaughn.

I’m an outdoors, adventure and travel writer/editor based in one of the most adventurous places on Earth: Alaska. I have been lucky enough to spend the past 20-plus years writing about the places and people that make this world so interesting and exciting. I dip into my journalism background to offer real stories, not just "my diary" of a trip.

I never tire of seeing new places — the more lost I feel, the more I seem to find yet another special nugget that merges us into one world. I am particularly attracted to wide-open spaces— the more remote, the better. Simple is good. There is nothing better than waking up in a tent with a view of the sunrise.

I hope this site inspires you to explore new places. Contact me if you think your special corner of the world is worth profiling. I'll check my mileage plan and see if I can hop on the next plane, passport in hand.

Feel free to leave a comment or follow me on social media. And remember (from one of my favorite writers) : “People don’t take trips, trips take people.” – John Steinbeck
