Professional mile runners converged in Anchorage, Alaska, this week to attempt to break the 4-minute mile in an outdoor venue. Until Wednesday (Sept. 13) night, the only person to run a sub-4 mile in Alaska (on an indoor track) was mile specialist Jack Bolas, who ran a 3:58.3 in 2013. Hoka One One's Kyle Merber and OTC Elite's Ben Blankenship both cracked the mark. Alaska's Trevor Dunbar, who runs for Hudson Elite in Boluder, Colo., wanted to be the first Alaskan to do so, but missed by 2 seconds. He has another chance Saturday, in his hometown of Kodiak as the Great Alaska Mile Series concludes with one more race.
